Learn How To Use SEO Effectively For Fitness Industry

Last week we covered in our blog the usage of Big Data in the Fitness Industry. In today’s post, we aim to explore the benefits of Search Engines Optimization (SEO) for the Fitness Industry.  If someone is searching for a specific gym that offers a pool, sauna, and personalized workouts, for example, SEO techniques will drive this customer to a business website that matches all their needs.

The income of a business probably comes through the website. It is vitally important that potential customers can find the website when they need to. The best and most cost-effective method to increase traffic to the website is to have a good position in organic search engine results. All people’s search queries from Google, Yahoo, or Bing to a website generates traffic which are called Organic search results.

Keyword Research

Search engines optimization, SEO, aims to make a particular site privileged and appear with priority (and quality) for those who seek something related to it on the Internet. SEO makes the customer journey easier.  Achieving good results with SEO can be accomplished by working with keywords that have a high number of searches. You can use Google Ads to find the best keyword related to your objectives. It is a free tool!

Mobile Friendly

Also, it is fundamental to have a mobile-friendly website. Today 54.86% of searches come from a mobile device. Source: Smart Insights. If your website is designed for a desktop device, it will not appear in the top 10 results from a mobile search.

Using Backlinks

In, addition using backlinks will improve your SEO. Google or Bing, view backlinks as indicators of quality content that has the support of other websites. Pages with more backlinks can rank higher on SERPs (search engine results pages). For example, if a quality website with an excellent reputation like a newspaper makes a post about the “best gyms in town”. The gym’s websites mentioned on this news website will have a fantastic vote of confidence.

If your business has a good budget for online advertisement, another alternative is the use of Search Engine Advertising. These paid results show up above the organic listings with ‘Sponsored’ or ‘Ad’ beside the link. They are known as PPC or pay-per-click which means that the advertiser will pay the search engine a fee every time the ad is clicked, and people will see the ad for the business above the search results. They can be in the form of Search or Display.

Before setting up your SEO goals it is fundamental to know your target and marketing strategy.  Attempting to appeal to everyone might result in failure.

  1. Hi Rafael,

It is incredible how SEO can work for every single website in the world. Isn't it? With the use of big data this tool can crawl through all the information uploaded in the internet, index them accordingly and gives the searcher the exactly answer for their searches. As you mentioned companies must be aware of the use of Keywords, backlinks and the optimization of their pages on different devices to ensure their websites will be ranked correctly and get the results they expect. The video you displayed in your post is very didactic and gives us an idea of how big is the work behind the white home page of Google and all the other search engines available out there. Well done!

  2. Hi Rafael,

I appreciate your time on sharing some information about SEO for the fitness industry.
I’ve recently opened a gym in my town, and I thought it was really interesting that my small business can be suggested to the local people by SEO techniques.
Nowadays with the vast competition it’s hard to be on top of the gyms, but I believe by investing in digital marketing I can grab potential clients’ attention to join in and offer an exclusive service to them.
I haven’t had any idea about Search Engine Advertising. I will look for more information about it since I have some budget destined for my Digital Marketing.

    Thank you for sharing

    Natália

  3. Hey Rafael,
Great content on SEO, you mentioned some pretty interesting points on what affects SEO for web pages. I wonder if different search engines have different metrics for their SEO. I saw you mentioned the effects of mobile adaptation on SEO. Something not many businesses accounted for before, but with the boom of smart devices, everyone is logged on all the time and it is vital for a business to be available too.
In relation to backlinks something I've seen before is collaboration between brands and businesses in order to improve the domain of one another. It's a great way to boost your authority! I've also seen that if it's the case of competitors you can use rel="nofollow"href not to give them any of your domain score.

    Thank you for posting!
    It was enjoyable to read.

your post on SEO was really interesting to read!
I am struggling myself with understanding how SEO works but I definitely agree on its importance.
Having a mobile friendly website is a must now for businesses. Customers use more and more smartphone to make their searches and make their purchases and therefore a business needs to consider this when setting up a website.
I didn't know about the use of backlinks, I definitely need to look into this more for my own website! There is so much to learn on the correct use of SEO so thank you so much for sharing this overview!
